This publication focuses on the development of reliable length conversion factors for key billfish species landed by Sri Lanka’s multiday fishing fleet. Accurate length measurements are critical for estimating biomass and supporting sustainable fisheries management. To address data collection challenges in the field, an automated mobile application was designed and implemented to simplify the process of recording fish lengths and applying appropriate conversion algorithms.
The solution enhances the efficiency of field data collection, improves the quality of scientific reporting, and contributes to regional efforts in maintaining healthy fish stocks through better resource assessment.
